Phantom Blade Zero Beginner Guide: Combat Basics & Difficulty
Sha-Chi, parries, Ghoststep, weapon switching and the four difficulty modes explained.
By PBZ Atlas · Updated 2026-11-03
Soul carries two blades (primary) and two Phantom Edges (secondary). Switching weapons has a cooldown but fully restores Sha-Chi, the resource used for blocking and Sha-Chi (heavy) attacks.
Enemy attacks are color-coded: brutal moves drain Sha-Chi heavily when blocked; killer moves cannot be blocked or parried. Parrying a brutal move or dodging a killer move at the last moment triggers a Ghoststep behind the enemy.
Difficulties: Wayfarer (easy), Pathbreaker (medium), Hellwalker (hard, smarter AI) and 66 Days (Hellwalker + a 66-death counter with permadeath). New Game Plus is available.
Weapons can be upgraded with materials and reforged to refund materials. Six accessories can be equipped.
