Table of contents

Lei Dang, the Order's Envoy, is a story boss in the Mirage Estate, the late-game region of Phantom Blade Zero. You have met him before: in Pangzhen he is the person who awakens the Dormant Flaming Mane for you at Jingyang Hall. In the Mirage Estate he becomes an opponent. PCGamesN's writer described him as the toughest boss fight in the whole game, so it pays to prepare.

Before entering the Mirage Estate

Reaching the Mirage Estate is a major milestone, and it is close to the point of no return for the true ending. The games.gg true ending guide says the ten purple-icon quests must be completed before you enter the Mirage Estate. Those quests are Allure of Vanity, Crimson Manor, Deep in the Valley, Illusion of Inanis, Illusory Pipa, Pillars of Kunlun, Secrets at the Heart of the Lake, Sha-Chi Powered Boat, The Herald's Illusion and Whence the Weeping. If any are unfinished, go back and complete them now; our true ending guide explains each requirement.

Inside the Mirage Estate you will first face Qiu Feng, the Crimson Boneblade, and the final Lóng Pillar encounter with Mo Yuan. Lei Dang comes after those. See the Mirage Estate guide for the order.

The arena-wide wave

The move that makes Lei Dang so difficult, according to PCGamesN, is a leap followed by a wave that sweeps across the whole arena. You cannot outrun it and you cannot simply roll through it. The counter is environmental: the arena contains stones, and you need to hide behind them to shield yourself from the blast.

Before you start dealing damage, take a moment to note where the stones are. When he leaps, move to the nearest stone immediately so that it is between you and him. Players who die repeatedly to Lei Dang usually die to this wave because they were in the middle of a combo when he jumped.

Watch every angle

PCGamesN's second tip is to keep him in sight at all times, because he can attack from any angle. Keep lock-on active. If you lose lock-on, re-acquire it before attacking. Avoid fighting with your back to a stone unless you are deliberately using it as cover, because you will lose your escape routes.

Building for the fight

General advice that applies here:

  • Use your best upgraded weapons. TechWiser notes weapon levels and materials can be refunded, so you can safely try a new primary weapon and get the materials back if it does not suit you.
  • Battleforged makes you immune to the next hit after ten seconds without taking damage, a good insurance policy against a surprise wave. AllThings. How lists it in Meigu Lake.
  • Medicine Case improves healing by twenty percent, and Jewel's Knot adds fifteen percent maximum health. Both come from early regions.
  • Keep your Phantom Edges charged so you can punish when he lands.

Find more in the accessories database and try combinations in the build planner.

Step by step

  1. Memorise the stones' positions as soon as the fight starts.
  2. Fight near a stone so cover is always one dodge away.
  3. When he leaps, stop attacking and take cover.
  4. After the wave, punish him while he recovers.
  5. Keep lock-on active and track him when he moves out of view.

Reward

Lei Dang drops the Tiger Cannon, a Destructive Phantom Edge with 310 damage and 208 guard break according to TechWiser. It can blast sealed walls, and PCGamesN notes it opens hidden areas in several maps, so backtracking afterwards is worthwhile. Its Soul Tempering material had not been listed in TechWiser's table when we checked, so we mark it TBD. View every edge on our Phantom Edges page.
