The Blizzard Blademaster is an optional boss hidden in the frozen part of Meigu Lake, at a place called Whiteshadow's Fall. He is one of the toughest optional fights in Phantom Blade Zero, but he guards a two-handed sword called Whiteshadow that many players want for their builds. Here is how to reach him and how to survive his ice.
How to unlock the ice area
PCGamesN explains that you cannot enter the icy section of Meigu Lake until you have defeated all four Acolytes. Acolytes are special enemies you challenge by interacting with certain scarecrows in different regions. Each one has its own elemental theme and drops a mask. The final Acolyte, Hansui, can only be fought during the Puppet Scavenger encounter in Crimson Manor, which is why PCGamesN recommends beating the other three first, then dealing with Hansui, and only then heading to the frozen area.
The games.gg true ending guide lists the four Acolyte locations as Yanru in the Village of Lu, Lei Ting in Pangzhen (reached with the Flaming Mane near the Pond of Fading Song), Guhe on the eastern island of Meigu Lake and Hansui in Crimson Manor. These masks also count toward the true ending route; see our true ending guide.
Preparation
Rest at the bell before the arena, as Phantom Blade Atlas recommends. Then sort out your loadout:
- Fire damage. Phantom Blade Atlas suggests fire options such as Blazing Edge or the Fire Meteor Phantom Edge. Fire Meteor comes from Blaze, the Shadow Warden Captain in Pangzhen, according to TechWiser.
- Healing. Bring Longevity Tonic, as Phantom Blade Atlas advises.
- Elemental defence. PCGamesN suggests equipping an accessory that reduces elemental damage. AllThings. How lists Frostward, which halves Chill and Freeze duration and is found in a chest near the Crimson Forest Sha-Chi Tower Gate. That is the most direct counter.
- If you want even more fire, Feather Fan Plume gives +20% Ice, Fire and Lightning damage, but it is found in Mirage Estate, so it may be out of reach at this point.

His attacks
PCGamesN warns about two things. First, be careful of the opening attack of the fight. You can dodge it at the very last moment, and he will use it again later, so learn its timing early. Second, when he charges up, the second attack after the charge is red. Prepare for a perfect dodge on that second hit, not the first.
Phantom Blade XYZ adds that you should sidestep his charged ranged slashes and avoid his ice attacks in general, because they build up freeze. If you do get frozen, rock the left stick left and right to break out faster. Phantom Blade Atlas also stresses dodging his red-flash attacks.
Strategy summary
- Defeat all four Acolytes and unlock the frozen area.
- Rest at the bell, equip Frostward and fire damage.
- Dodge the opening attack late and remember its timing.
- Avoid his ice attacks so freeze does not build up.
- After a charge-up, wait for the second hit and perfect dodge it.
- If frozen, wiggle the left stick to escape quickly.
- Punish with fire damage when he recovers.
Reward
Defeating him drops Whiteshadow, a two-handed sword. If you are building around two-handed weapons, AllThings. How lists Quick Hand Might, which boosts two-handed weapon damage by ten percent and can be bought from Quick Hand Zhang for 30,000 Remnant Dust. See the Quick Hand Zhang guide and our Meigu Lake region guide.
General boss tips that apply here
These rules come up again and again in PCGamesN's boss breakdowns and games.gg's duel tips. Parry blue flashes and perfect dodge red ones; red attacks cannot be blocked safely. Watch your Sha-Chi bar, because running it dry leaves you Guard-Broken. Switching between your two main weapons quickly refills Sha-Chi, which games.gg highlights as a key defensive trick. Save your heaviest combos and Phantom Edge skills for the moment the boss is Guard-Broken. If a fight is a wall, th.gl confirms you can lower the difficulty outside combat to widen parry and dodge windows, and the Reflex Device accessory (AllThings. How) adds another 15%.
