Table of contents

The Lóng Pillars are dragon statues scattered across the world of Phantom Blade Zero. Touching one transports Soul into a duel with the Gold-Masked One, a mysterious swordsman also called the Man in Black, who is revealed to be Mó Yuan, played by Donnie Yen according to the game's Wikipedia page. There are five pillars in total, and beating all five completes the Bloodline Awakening quest, which is one of the requirements for the best ending. This guide gathers their locations, rewards and the deadlines you must respect.

Starting Bloodline Awakening

games.gg explains that interacting with your first pillar starts the Bloodline Awakening quest, after which the remaining pillars are marked on your map. You are allowed to leave a duel and come back later with better gear, which makes it worth finding the first pillar early even if you cannot win yet.

The deadlines

There are two checkpoints to watch, per games.gg:

  • Finish the first four pillars before opening the Green Serpent House door in Pangzhen. That door leads to the Mirage Estate and is the first point of no return. The game warns you if Perfect Ending requirements are unfinished.
  • Finish the fifth pillar, inside the Mirage Estate, before passing The Last Chance bell on Mount Soulrend.

Rewards table

  • Weeping Creek Valley: Counterstrike Bracers, an accessory giving +20% damage for two seconds after a successful parry.
  • Crimson Forest: Miraculous Scabbard, which grants Super Armor and damage reduction briefly when you swap your main weapon.
  • Meigu Lake, eastern island: Quenched Flaming Grip, one of two pieces of the Flaming Grip used to temper Sanguine Reach into Blazing Edge.
  • Phantom Illusionist Ruins (Meigu Lake): Chaos Iron Fragment I, needed to temper Sanguine Twin into Shadowless Edge.
  • Mirage Estate: Bastion of Mó Mask, used to temper Sanguine into Infernal Rouge.

The first two accessories are also listed by AllThings. How as Lóng Pillar trial rewards; see the accessories database.

How to reach each pillar

Weeping Creek Valley

This pillar sits on an optional eastern detour linked to the Deep in the Valley quest. games.gg says you need two keys. Defeat The Hunt for the Hunter's Chain Sickle, use it to get the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key, open the gate near the Sha-Chi Tower, then follow the eastern route to a cabin with the Long Pillar Overlook Crane Bell. A gold chest there holds the Rusted Loong Key. Cross the rope bridge, defeat the Maskwalkers, wall-run across the gap and unlock the door with the key.

Crimson Forest

Defeat Stone Hand Iron Fever, then go into the cave and take the right branch at the fork marked by a Memory Flower. After leaving the cave, head into the glowing red area on the left and grapple across with the chain sickle to reach the Mirrorwood Long Pillar Bell.

Meigu Lake island

Once you own the Sha-Chi Powered Boat, sail to the far eastern side of the lake and land at the Midlake Long Pillar Dock. Enemies, including a Butcher, guard the island.

Phantom Illusionist Ruins

This one needs all four Acolyte Masks and the Dread Axe. Sail to the frozen northwest edge of Meigu Lake, pass through the gap in the ice, and use the Four Guardians' Mirror. Inside, cross the mountain pass to the fishing village, continue past the third bell and break the gate with the Dread Axe.

Mirage Estate

From the Covered Corridor Bell, take the corridor on the right to its end, look down for a chain-sickle grapple point and follow the path to the Mirage Estate Long Pillar Bell.

Fighting the Gold-Masked One

games.gg notes that ordinary attacks do nothing in the first duel until you create an opening with correct defence. Parry blue flashes, perfect dodge red flashes and red grabs, block his red sword waves at range (an exception to the usual rule), and dodge black or black-and-white attacks, because blocking those empties your Sha-Chi. Later duels add a crouching red charge and faster Sha-Chi recovery. Useful gear includes the Outlaw Warblade for healing, the Resonance Talisman and Shenji's Ring. PCGamesN's account of the final encounter with Mo Yuan is in our Mirage Estate guide.

Beating all five unlocks the Phantom and Blade trophy, per games.gg; see the trophy guide and the true ending guide.
