Table of contents
The end of Phantom Blade Zero's main story takes place on Mount Soulrend. Rather than a single boss, it is a gauntlet of fights that ends with Meng Hua, the Merciful Lady of the Blossom Veil. This guide covers how to prepare, what each stage asks of you and how to deal with Meng Hua's most dangerous attacks. It contains light spoilers about which bosses appear, but no story details.
Before you go
Phantom Blade Atlas recommends resting at The Last Chance bell before entering. As the name suggests, this is the final safe point. The games.gg true ending guide treats The Last Chance bell as the point of no return for true-ending requirements, so finish the Quick Hand Zhang requests and everything else on your list before passing it. Read the true ending guide first if you want the best ending.
PCGamesN offers another reason to finish side content first: in the Mount Soulrend fights, characters whose quests you completed appear to help you. They deal meaningful damage and act as distractions. The more side quests you finished, the easier the gauntlet.
Stage by stage
Phantom Blade Atlas describes the final run as five stages:
- The Puppet Scavenger. Its blade attacks are slow and easy to block, according to PCGamesN's notes on the earlier Crimson Manor version. Phantom Blade Atlas recommends the Battleforged accessory for this stage; it makes you immune to the next hit after ten seconds without taking damage.
- Heartpiercer and Cavalrybane, two Elite Shadow Wardens you met earlier. Kill one of the pair first when possible. Heartpiercer's red attack sends spinning blades, and Cavalrybane follows air spins with a blue attack, per PCGamesN.
- Yubi and Yuding, two numbered puppets. Yubi follows electrical spins and leaps with red attacks. Again, focus one at a time.
- Leng Tu, Herald of the Veil. PCGamesN says to fight his summons first, avoid the shadows of his giant arms in the sky, and do not bother dodging the large orb he charges in the middle; it only pushes you away.
- Meng Hua. Covered below.
PCGamesN also lists The Crusher and the Saw as a Mount Soulrend fight. Lock on to Saw in phase one to make tracking easier, and in the Earthshattering phase expect a jumping, spinning red attack after his hammer swing.
Meng Hua
Meng Hua has two attacks you must respect:
- Rotating lasers. Jump over them or dodge through them, and stay mobile throughout, as both PCGamesN and Phantom Blade Atlas recommend.
- White orb and darkness. When she charges a white orb in her hand and the screen goes dark, a red attack follows immediately. Be ready to perfect dodge the moment the darkness falls.
Phantom Blade Atlas adds one more detail: dark fragments appear on the ground. Pick them up, because they blunt her world-ending attack. Outside these moves, PCGamesN considers her a manageable fight.
Rewards and what comes next
PCGamesN lists The Lady's Fan weapon and The Lady's Crown, which is used to Soul Temper it, as rewards. On a normal run, this is where the story ends. If you met the true ending requirements, you face Zuo Shang once more after Meng Hua. Afterwards, Inanis offers a New Cycle; see our New Game Plus guide and the trophy guide, since the endings are tied to trophies.
General boss tips that apply here
These rules come up again and again in PCGamesN's boss breakdowns and games.gg's duel tips. Parry blue flashes and perfect dodge red ones; red attacks cannot be blocked safely. Watch your Sha-Chi bar, because running it dry leaves you Guard-Broken. Switching between your two main weapons quickly refills Sha-Chi, which games.gg highlights as a key defensive trick. Save your heaviest combos and Phantom Edge skills for the moment the boss is Guard-Broken. If a fight is a wall, th.gl confirms you can lower the difficulty outside combat to widen parry and dodge windows, and the Reflex Device accessory (AllThings. How) adds another 15%.
