Pangzhen Guide: Bosses, Edges and Accessories (Phantom Blade Zero)

Pangzhen is the biggest map in Phantom Blade Zero, according to PCGamesN, and the AllThings.How map backs that up with the highest count of bells and chests of any region. It is a sprawling town split into several districts and visited in two parts of the story. Pangzhen is where Myst, the blacksmith-like character who handles Soul Tempering, can be found, and it hosts more Phantom Edges than anywhere else. If you only have time to fully explore one region, make it this one.

Pangzhen at a glance

Bosses and how to approach them

Blaze, Shadow Warden Captain is the first Pangzhen boss. Kill nearby enemies to restore health and keep your distance so you can react to his chains. In phase two, as Phosphor Consciousness, he uses poison; red attacks follow his spins, and you should dodge away when he leaps or throws a circle into the air. He drops Fire Meteor.

Cavalrybane, Elite Shadow Warden follows air spins with a blue attack; block his charge and dodge the kick afterwards. He drops Armybreaker.

Wu Xuan, the Fallen General telegraphs a blue attack by spinning his hammer overhead. Bring a shield breaker. He drops Wolfjaw.

Xie Qiudong, the Divine Healer heals enemies linked to him by red thread. PCGamesN suggests focusing the boss directly once the initial linked enemies are down.

Chang Hong, the Thunder Spear fights on foot, then on horseback. Dodge the electricity he sends along the ground, and perfect dodge the red attacks after his spinning jump and when his horse rears. He drops the Thunder Spear.

You Loong and Flame, the Lion Dance Grandmaster should be fought in that order; see the Flame guide.

Soulclaimer, Elite Shadow Warden guards the boat at the edge of Pangzhen. Parry the blue attack after he runs off and spins back. He drops Parting Hooks.

• Parting Hooks: Defeat Soulclaimer, the Elite Shadow Warden, at Dockside Warehouse.

Phantom Edges in Pangzhen

Phantom Edges are your secondary weapons; you equip two at a time, and they run on Remnant Spark charges. According to TechWiser, the following edges come from this region:

• Fire Meteor (Martial, DMG 380 / Ignite 309): Defeat Blaze, Shadow Warden Captain. Soul Tempering: Everlasting Flame → Bone-Eating Ghostfire.
• Wolfjaw (Destructive, DMG 261 / Guard Break 280): Defeat Wu Xuan, the Fallen General, west of Backstreet Archway bell. Lifesteal. Soul Tempering: Border Poems → Ghostfire Wreath.
• You Loong's Deluge (Artifice, DMG 201 / Guard Break 180): Defeat optional You Loong, Leader of the Blackwater Crew, near Lion Dance Hall bell. Soul Tempering: High-power Pump → Scalding Steam.
• Thunder Spear (Martial, DMG 450 / Status 360): Defeat Chang Hong (story). Inflicts Paralysis. Soul Tempering: Thunder Core → Cascading Thunder.
• Flaming Mane (Artifice, DMG 248 / Status 176): Defeat Flame, the Lion Dance Grandmaster, then bring the Dormant Flaming Mane to Lei Dang at Jingyang Hall. Burns vines. Soul Tempering: Blazing Lion Head → Chaotic Flame.
• Goldblaze (Ranged, DMG 281 / Guard Break 151): Complete Quick Hand Zhang's Pangzhen request. Soul Tempering: Maintenance Oil → Dodge Counter.
• Illusory Pipa (Artifice, DMG 276 / Guard Break 234): Repair the Heartrend Pipa via Myst after beating Dusk, Yubi and Yan Qiansui. Dispels mist barriers. Soul Tempering: —.
